A little bit of class

Today was a somewhat low key day yet there is still tons to get done regardless of if we are in the water much or not. Since the skills needed some more polishing, the instructor took our group out again. This time we started with rescuing an unconsious diver and successfully getting the diver from the bottom of the water to shore. In transit the rescuer needs to be giving rescue breaths every 5 seconds while removing both the victims and the resucuers gear. Luckily, we found all the run away equipment that occured during our practices. This led to only a little time to work on skills before we all had to head back. After we got back to the dive shop, we asked around if anyone knew the plan for Betty's birthday. Betty and Garett were at the day trip to Gato and I was not sure if Garett looked into getting a cake for Betty's birthday tomorrow. I asked one of the other interns and she stated with confidence that they don't make birthday cakes on the island. I knew I saw a shop in the town that had a sign for birthday cakes for order so Jeff and I checked it out. Assuming Garett would be a typical boyfriend and not have ordered a cake yet especially since they would be gone all day, I decided to order a cake. It was 800 php which is steep but if it is the only place that makes cakes so I guess they have the market cornered. When I asked about the cake size, the shape the girl made with her hand flactuated between a small and large cake so we really had no clue. The cake only came in chocolate which would be fine as I knew Betty had been talking about a certain chocolate back at home she had been missing. After getting the cake ordered, we headed back to the room for a while. The rest of the day was spent working on more chapter knowledge reviews until it was time to head to Blue Coral with the interns for sunset and happy hour. Calvin was there with his target board and throwing knives. Calvin has had many odd jobs throughout his life and had worked for the circus for many years. He does very well with the water, fire, and other stunts. To us Calvin is the one with all the toys. Everyone took their turns at throwing the knives at the target during the early portion of happy hour. A dad and son that I had seen at the shop earlier that day showed up at Blue Coral as well. The look of amazement on the boy's face to see someone throwing knives at an outside bar reminded me that we were all a long way from home. Soon one of our instructors came over to remind us to be back at the shop by 7 PM promptly since the operations manager ensured him that the snorkel tests would be on time today. Both Max and Andy had completed the dive master training and were to take their final test, the lethal snorkel test. Max and Andy completed their snorkel tests like true profesionals. After the snorkel test and congratulations, we were headed off to where else, Malditos. Having been submerged with skill sections the last couple days it was hard to get these movements out of our minds. Andy obviously felt the same way as he started all of us in a night of skill movements to music, dance routines. Even though there were a couple of instructors at the bar, it became too hard for me to fight the routines and giving them my own flavor. These were perfect for the disco later that night. Once we got to the disco and started dancing I noticed I had a little girl that was trying to copy my dance moves. Next thing I new there were 2 then 3 little mini me's following my every move. The three little girls were very cute and I tried to keep my dance moves PG13. It was like my own private dance class I was teaching, I am not sure if this is part of the DM program but maybe it should be. We all danced until they had to go home at about 1:30 AM. This seems very late for little girls around age 10 to be staying out but appeared to be common practice around here. Lately, all the children around town were practicing in groups everyday for the dance competition. May 11th and 12th there will be a large festival on the island that the main island and many other Filipino island locals will come to Malapascua for. Since the children have become accustomed over the last week to follow dance routines this may be the reason I quickly had a little group of my own.
